The cost of war

So far our government has spent 600 billion dollars on both the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's now projected that we will spend 2.4 trillion dollars through the next decade. 2.4 trillion? Isn't that the amount of the national debt ? I can't believe the way this country spends money. Both parties always talk about fiscal responsibility, but I guess they don't understand what a national budget is, or how it affects its citizens. With 2.4 trillion dollars we can overhaul our health care systems or fix education or help save social security. But no, we're sending young men to their deaths because we don't want to be conceived as weak in the eyes of the global community. It seems like a very high cost to impress a few friends and foes alike.

The american debt was 14 trillian four years ago but that doesn't matter because we work on the credit system the goverment good for it. I got my tax returns in the mail and it said IOU. Besides don't you think McDonalds will make a killing over there, number one they are all hungry and need places to go second a mcfrosty would keep them cool in those hot summer days. Pluss in exchange we can get some oil for our big SUV's then again we should stop making those because they cause forest fires. The worst part about it, who says our style life is better then theirs? I don't beleive it is our job to juge the world based on our selves, look we hated comunism but our big import is from china go figure. Okay enough said i am starte dto get politacly charged.

Although I agree with your perspective on restricting extraneous expenditure and national budget, I do think you oversimplified domestic issues such as the "overhaul our health care systems or fix education or help save social security" when these issues are much more complex and often have to deal with third party (usually private business) involvement.

Your right were spending too much war on the war in iraq, but lets face it. Well never fix health care, and well certainly never fix our education system. There will always be a way to waste money in this world, and if its not the iraq war, its something else. This has been the argument throughout every generation's war, but no matter what something new develops. Go mets.

we'll if we get creamned in the next war, we don't really have to work about any type of helath care, or an education, cause we'll al be dead. but ur right, more then half that amount of money should be spent on better things. The U.S. spends the most amount of money on just the military then any other country. however, to keep the economy running, the country does need to be in some type of debt. we're still collecting money from the countries the U.S lent to other countries durring the previouse wars. If we randomly produced money, more then what the country actually had, then the U.S would be like Russia nearly a centuray ago. we'd litteraly have money to burn.
